EXTRAVAGANT CONCEPT FRAMES BY MOREL DESIGNERS FOR THIS YEAR MET GALA

2019’s Met Gala Costume Exhibition located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s in New York City, theme is Notes on “Camp”. The Gala is the fashion & couture event where creators show absolutely no limit. This year, Morel decided to participate in the event by asking our designers to create a concept frame.

WHAT IS NOTES ON CAMP?

Notes on “Camp”, will examine how the elements of irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration are expressed in fashion.

The gala will feature some 200 fine art and fashion objects, the contents of the exhibition will trace the origins of the subject from the 17th century, specifically the court of Versailles, to the present day.

MOREL INSPIRATION FOR NOTES ON “CAMP”

Our designers were immediately interested when the theme was announced and started to work on sketches. With a stirring imagination, one of our designers took on the task.

According to him, the motivation went beyond “Camp”.

“To most people, “Camp” is the extravagant style from the second half of the 20th century, but there’s so much more to it! On top of those inspirations, I looked back at an “English Dandy” from the early 19th century; their refinement was unmatched at the time. For the top half of the frame, the inspiration stemmed from Louis the XIVth’s style, “the Sun-King” attitude.”

As for any frame designed by Morel, the concept was first drawn by hand and then a digital version. The designer added intricate details, materials and patterns, such as the small chain holding the Morel Cat to make the result come alive!

Le tout sert un seul objectif : être au vu et au su de tous.

Morel’s goal of being seen and talked about was a success! Our readers are already on phone with their opticians, trying to get more info about the release date! Sadly, this will remain a concept model; however, our designers are already working on the next collection using this model as their inspiration.
